In October 2018, I decided to separate work and personal life and set up a whole new account on Instagram for Ashleigh Buntings hair.
This was when I started to take my business, and Bridal hairstyling seriously – I realised not only was it more professional to have a business account, but I could also monitor my reach a lot easier – and also be less annoying to my friends keep posting work pictures haha.
I started to do my research on making social media work, started following wedding suppliers I like, or previously worked with and would like to work with in the future.
My followers slowly crept up – A great feeling!
I kept getting messages offering me 1000s of followers, but with a price tag. As much as this was tempting, as having lots of followers looks great, I kept declining as I wanted genuine followers. Followers that liked my work, followers that wanted to book my services, and followers that would recommend me to their friends.
I then decided to create an eye catching grid, alternating my posts between pictures and inspirational quotes, information, testimonials and hair tips.
I liked how my Instagram started to look, pretty, pink and professional! People started to notice and comment on how they liked what I was doing too.
I made sure all the pictures I posted looked professional, and showed my work off the best it could. I also occasionally share stories of family life – to show potential brides that I am just a normal person, a mum of 3, doing a job I love. I have had brides say it is lovely to see and that they feel they know me a little before we meet which makes them feel very comfortable with me – which is lovely!
I was hoping to reach 1000 followers by new year, and I was only a couple of days out – and as you can see from the video, I was very excited!
The day I reached the 1000 mark, I picked my children up from school, and I told them about it – they was equally excited! We decided to go and get some giant balloons, and make some boomerangs to post on social media! This is harder than it sounds with children behind the camera, and a 1 year old that is scared of balloons haha! but we got there in the end!
Seeing my children so happy for me and proud of what I have achieved, is everything! The support I also got from social media was overwhelming too – even with a video that I looked a complete mess, as it had poured with rain that day, but nobody seemed to care – they was just wall happy for me.
2019 was personally a really tough year, going through a divorce of my own, and I wanted to show my children that with hard work, determination and love for what you do, you can achieve anything! And I will carry on showing them this everyday!
2020 is going to be a great year for Ashleigh Buntings hair, and the Bunting family – with lots of exciting things in the pipeline.
